In 2003, after more than 20 years painting at Union Square, NYC, I moved my studio to
Long Island City. Here, I look out on the highways connecting to the Queensboro
Bridge, the El trains, Silvercup Studios building and its sign, a newly renovated red
building, a school with its brightly lit yard, smokestacks, all under a big sky.

With these elements I have made many variations.

Drawing from direct observation, has always been important to my work, including an early
body of abstract painting that still informs my personal, visual language.
My interests are taken by the elusive light of night and day, trying to describe it through
color. As the paintings evolve slowly, sometimes over years, resolution will rely
upon memory.

The memory drives the painting. Memory becomes the subject.
